Grief, Mourning, and Bereavement
Grief has a life cycle of its own.
Within each well-recognized stage of loss and bereavement, there is an unrecognizable world of intense feeling that can’t be known until it is experienced. Grief is a presence. It is a process with a timeline that can’t be controlled or anticipated. I provide companionship, balance, comfort, and perspective in your time of grief. I offer the understanding and the skills for you to make peace with your loss. |
I can offer this because I have lived the life cycle of grief. During the seasons of my bereavement, I devoted myself fully and consciously to the process of my grief. And to the process of my emergence into renewal. Each time it was a unique journey.
In my grief counseling with others, I see common themes in our unique experiences.
A wet weight comes to sit upon a life. The chest pounds. The body aches. The mind blurs. There are sleepless nights. Surreal days. Skinless sensitivity to sound, touch, the rhythm of the world, and well-meaning acts of care from others.
An earthquake tremors through the very ground of being. Old fears resurface. Present day assumptions crumble. Future dreams fall away. There is a struggle to permit ample time in sadness and solitude. To allow a respite through distraction into love and lightness.
There is a tearing open. Emotions are torn between regret and relief. Rage and despair. Compassion and selfishness. Anticipation and dread. Exposing need and projecting strength.
With all this, I also see the astounding growth and deep peace that can be found when grief is met with patience and perspective.
Whether your loss is through death, natural disaster, severance of relationship, severance of place, severance of any kind, I can help you through the pain and into the peace.
If my way of working feels like a good fit for you, let’s connect. I offer a free, no-obligation 20-minute consultation.
